Learn to play flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, snare drum, bells or another instrument. Join the band!  A class for beginners, 4^th Grade +

Already play flute, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, trumpet, French horn trombone, percussion or another instrument?  Come join the ensemble!

Ready…Set…Sing!

Do you love to sing and dance?  Learn easy songs and movements to perform with other kids. Show off your star potential!

P B & J

Do you like a P B & J?  At MAEC, that’s “Pop, Broadway and Jazz,” singing and dancing spectacular! Come join other kids who love to perform too.

M & M’s

Behind the Scenes

 

A time and place for families and friends to come together and enjoy movie musicals while exploring learning information about your favorite films, actors and musicians.  We’ll learn music and scenes from the shows and see how the dance, drama and music are used to tell the story.

CAM: Create a Musical!

Be a diva for a day! The stage is yours, as you create, write and produce an original musical.

 

In the course of a single CAM, MAEC’s talented faculty will assist you to write, arrange and present your own show; transform into character and perform at the end of the day! One word of caution: CAM may be contagious and you will find yourself signing up for more! Open enrollment for ages 6+.

Single day CAM sessions: Fridays 9am-5pm: October 28, March 2 or March 23.  $50/single day session

Two-day CAM session: January 17-18; $90/2-day session

Academy Winds

Don’t stop the music…join the ensemble! Improve your playing skills, music-reading skills and have fun at the same time! Players who want to keep playing andexpand their music skills enjoy coming together.  Must have playing experience, know how to read music and have your own instrument.

Want to explore playing piano or guitar?  Learn basic hand positions, simple melodies or chords, note names, rhythm and music reading.

Flute Ensemble

Bring your flute and have fun exploring and developing fundamentals of flute chamber music.

Aspects of playing flute such as tone production, intonation, rhythm, and  technique will be addressed. Play duets, trios, and quartets and more.  Beginners through advanced flutists welcome;  players will be grouped by level of proficiency.

Music for Little Mozarts

Join Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse for a fun-filled time while singing, listening, moving and playing piano.  Provides the perfect balance of imaginative instruction and age appropriate activities to build a positive musical foundation for young children. Ages 3+.

New Horizons Band

If you are looking for a fun way to learn a musical instrument without the rigors of individual instruction, you might want to consider joining the New Horizons Band. The New Horizons Bandis for adults, ages 50 and up, who wish to learn to play a band instrument for the first time, or relearn an instrument, the New Horizons band provides a relaxed, fun learning situation. The New Horizons Band provides adults with little or no musical experience the opportunity to play band music with others. The band meets two days a week. Instruments include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone, other instruments are considered upon request. Come join the fun with this ensemble and discover your hidden (or dormant) musical talents!

Cost: FREE, co-sponsored with Pitt Community College Continuing Education

Reading Music I
Tuesdays, 7-8pm, 3 week class, October 11-25

Tuesdays, 6-7pm, 3 week class, November 1-15

This course is designed for individuals with no music reading experience as those who wish to improve their music reading skill. Course content will include the history of musical notation, the elements of music and how they are written, collaborative activities, and group participation. Cost: $35

Reading Music II
Tuesdays, 7-8pm, 3 week class, November 1-15

Prerequisite: Reading Music I or instructor consent

This course will build on concepts learned in Reading Music I. Course content will develop music reading skills and introduce basic music theory concepts through collaborative activities and group participation. Cost: $35

Classical Music: A Primer
6-8pm, Sept 22, Sept 29 & Oct 4

This course will explore the traditions of Western art music via the structure, style and composers of works to be performed at the upcoming PCC Symphony Orchestra concert. Course content will include listening, lecture, discussion, an introduction to score reading and conducting, and a hands-on introduction to orchestral instruments. No previous musical experience required. Cost: $60

Group Piano for Senior Adults, Part I
Mondays, August 29-September 26, 2-3pm

Mondays, October 17-November 14, 2-3pm

This course is an exploratory introduction to playing the piano for beginners.

Students will learn basic handpositions, simple melodies, note names, and beginning music reading. Cost: $49

Group Piano for Senior Adults, Part II
Mondays, September 12-October 10, 2-3pm

Mondays, November 21-December 19, 2-3pm

Prerequisite: Group Piano for Senior Adults, Part I or instructor consent

This course builds on skills learned in Group Piano, Part I. Students will develop two-handed techniques with basic hand positions for chords, learn more complex melodies, read chord symbols, and use music symbols to play the keyboard. Cost: $49

Music Exploration for Senior Adults

Mondays, September 12-October 10, 1-2pm

This course is a hands-on introduction to music. Students will come to appreciate all aspects of music throughlistening, responding, creating, and understanding music through their bodies, minds, and spirits. Emphasis will be on movement, singing, playing instruments, and reading music. Topics will include the elements of music, styles, multicultural aesthetics, improvisation, and composition. Cost: $49

Celebration Singers

Mondays, August 23-December 12, 1-2pm

People who sing together often seem utterly happy and engaged in life. Celebration Singers is a fun-filled choir for adults, ages 50 and up. If you enjoy singing and socializing… this is the group for you! Come enjoy music from Gospel to Broadway show tunes and just about everything in between. Singing may offer benefits to deep and controlled breathing and focus on maintaining good use of the lungs, diaphragm and abdominal muscles. In addition, singing maintains good speech and diction. Add music to your health! Attend as often as you can – we understand life is full of appointments and travel! No audition required, just a love of music.
