Originally from McHenry, IL, John served in the US Army, stationed in Ft. Drum, NY. He is proud to make eastern NC his home. Performing and traveling with the Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps was an experience that has shaped John’s love for percussion. In addition to his drum corps experience, he performed with numerous local rock bands while living in NY. His performance travels have taken him to places such as Calgary, Canada and New York City. John wants potential students to know that lessons with him are not just academic drum lessons. Parents will see progress from month to month and with performances such as recitals. He will give written feedback for students and parents to follow learning progress. And he guarantees all students will have fun learning percussion skills!
While in IL, he was in a motorcycle accident that resulted in him becoming quadriplegic. This hasn’t diminished his love for music or his drive to continue performing percussion. In addition, he has daily assistance with his service dog, Bear. Since this accident, he has found another new passion - wheelchair rugby! John loves being active and cherishes time at nearby beaches with his family. He loves travel and says he dreams of traveling to Italy. John is looking forward to sharing his love of music, percussion and life to students with the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina. When not involved with these activities, you may find John enjoying sushi at Shogun’s or enjoying the bike trails in Pitt County.
